CHINESE DISSIDENT ZHANG QI TO DISCLOSE FULL ACCOUNT OF HER KIDNAPPING BY CHINESE AGENTS ON VIETNAM/CHINA BORDER LAST JUNE AND HER ENSUING 8-MONTH CAPTIVITY IN CHINA
Washington, DC --- Zhang Qi, who was kidnapped on the Vietnam/China border last June by Chinese agents, will hold a press conference on March 6th, 2003 at the National Press Club (West Room) to describe in detail her harrowing experiences. Along with Chinese pro-democracy dissidents Dr. Wang Bingzhang and Yue Wu, she was forcibly abducted from her hotel on June 27th, 2003 and made to cross into China. In February, Dr. Wang Bingzhang was sentenced to life in prison. His final appeal was denied on February 28th.
Zhang Qi was released from house arrest immediately after the Chinese government's rejection of Dr. Wang's appeal. She returned to the United States on March 1st.
